Winchester Country Club Hosts 7th Annual Veterans Day Weekend Tournament

"Links to Freedom was formed to implement Wounded Warrior and Disabled Veteran rehabilitative golf programs at military and civilian golf facilities nationwide." L 2 has instructed more than 5000 Warriors since 2008 focusing on the physical, mental, emotional and social aspects of golf while striving to reduce the incidence of harmful behaviors within our Veteran community.

(Winchester, Va.) - The 101-year-old country club in Winchester, Virginia continues to give back to America's Heroes hosting its seventh annual fund-raising tournament for Links to Freedom (L2F). Winchester Country Club is an ardent supporter of Links to Freedom, a leader in sports rehabilitation, using golf to help heal Wounded Warriors, Veterans, their caregivers, and Gold Star family members.

"Winchester Country Club has been the number one supporter of all of the Clubs that Links to Freedom works with to support America's Heroes," said PGA Professional and L2F Executive Director, Steve Greiner. "The club has raised over a quarter of a million dollars for America's Heros in the last six years. We encourage all of our students, supporters and sponsors to sign up to play on November 9, 2024."

Last year, Winchester Country Club (WCC) was featured in the Winchester Star newspaper as they celebrated a century of top-notch golf and club services for their community who endeavor to play the course laid out on 244 acres. Having endured through some of the most challenging years for America's country clubs, WCC has a reputation of giving back and raising money for various charities and foundations.

Links to Freedom was developed by Greiner to bring a sense of normalcy and recreation to those Service Members who otherwise would spend the entire week in intense psychological and physical therapy. After successfully engaging this community, Greiner realized that golf is also a vehicle for social and emotional rehabilitation, not only for the service members but for their families and caregivers.

"Not one of our 5000-plus students has had to pay for this curriculum golf program," said Links to Freedom Chairman, Rob Koon, a retired Airman. "WCC's support has not only been super but most importantly, consistent. This club's members and the devoted organizers of this Event, have provided Links to Freedom increased opportunities to teach more Wounded Warriors how to play golf and experience the physical, emotional, mental and social benefits golf has to offer."

This year's tournament will be played in honor of World War I| Veteran, Charles Arnold "Chuck" Rodgers who passed away at 97 years old in February. Chuck never missed the chance to play alongside our Warriors. AFriday-night Sponsor reception includes a progam to recognize Rodgers for his consistent support and love for this annual Event. Friday's reception is by invitation only to the generous sponsors of this annual event, along with Chuck's daughters and invited guests which include some of Chuck's dear friends and the gentlemen from his weekly golf group. Chuck's son-in-law will play in the Event on Saturday and appropriately be paired with Chuck's golf buddies.

The Veterans Day tournament on Saturday, Nov. 9, 2024 includes teams consisting of 3 registered players and one L2F Wounded Warrior. This inclusion of a Warrior was a model established by WCC, and has since been adopted for all L2F fundraising tournaments. This emphasizes the results of the L2F golf-therapy program when each three-some sees first-hand the impact golf has on the wounded warriors in our Program.

The Sponsor Reception on Friday, November 8th and the Opening Ceremony on Saturday, incudes a special program to recognize our Veterans. Al activities wil be held at Winchester Country Club located at 1300 Senseny Road, Winchester, Virginia.

Sponsorship and playing packages are still available to support more Wounded Warrior participation and can be found on the L2F webpage, the tournament site https://2f-wcc.perfectgolfevent.com or by sending an email to l2fwcc@comcast.net.
